You’re hanging out with someone. Who is it?
Thanks for stopping by to hang out with me as I continue my series of thoughts based on the music from my recent playlist. Today we look at “Come to the Table,” lyrics by Dave Frey, Ben Glover and Ben Mcdonald. Watch the video here.
Bear with me as I attempt to meld a couple of divergent ideas together…
- I grew up in a church where we celebrated EVERYTHING with food. Bridal showers, weddings, baby showers. You name it; we fed it. It was a demonstration of love and community-building.
- Jesus longs to hang out with us. See Revelation 3:20
All my life, I’ve heard Rev. 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock…” I remember the huge painting of Christ posed to knock on a quaint door. I walked past it every time I entered the church.
The primary lesson I recall from this verse is that Jesus is making an effort to reach out to us all. We just have to respond:
“…if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…”
All we have to do is open the door to our heart and let Him in. But, humans are stubborn, and we fight the urge. I mean, hang out with Jesus?
But why didn’t I remember the REST of the verse?
“…I will come in to him and have dinner with him and he with me.”
Jesus wants to hang out with us.
He wants to party. He wants a feast. And it’s available for anyone.
This is hooked me on this song. Jesus doesn’t expect to hang out with perfect people. He’s looking for a “motley crew of misfits.”
Take time to celebrate just hanging out with Jesus – the King of Kings. Sit down at the table and dig in. There’s room for everyone.
Thanks for stopping by today. It is my prayer that you dig in deep and plan time with the Savior.
