Is there any faithfulness in this crazy world?
I’ve been on a faithfulness quest.
Have you noticed that they just don’t make things the way they used to? For the most part , in 2020, if something breaks down, it’s almost cheaper to replace it than to fix it. Faithfulness isn’t important anymore.
My washing machine was like that recently. Either I could spend several hundred dollars to fix the problem, and then I’d have a usable, yet USED, machine. Or I could spend less than half as much MORE and end up with a brand new machine.
Or when the manufacturer knows that if your car headlight bulb goes out (for example) that you’d be inclined to replace it yourself for under $10. But they redesign the thing so you must remove the entire bumper to get to the bulb. Price tag now? $80 labor- plus the $5 bulb! Things like this tend to make me skeptical and untrusting.
God’s Faithful Nature is undeniable
The definition of this trait is: [strict or thorough in the performance of duty; true to one’s word, promises, vows, etc; steady in allegiance or affection; loyal, constant; reliable, trusted, or believed]. A thorough study of scripture will show that this is a clear description of God! Psalm 119:90 reminds us of this basic – God created the Earth and it’s still standing! “Your Faithfulness is for all generations; You established the earth, and it stands firm.” While today’s manufacturers plan for their work to eventually break or become obsolete, God’s work of Creation is still around!
God’s Nature is worth praising
Throughout the Psalms, AKA songs, we are encouraged to praise the Faithfulness of God:
Ps. 36:5, “LORD, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the clouds.”
Ps. 57:10, “For Your faithful love is as high as the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches the clouds.”
Even creation and the angels in heaven praise Him for His Faithfulness. (See Ps. 89:5, “LORD, the heavens praise Your wonders – Your faithfulness also – in the assembly of the holy ones.”)
God’s Faithfulness is within us
Because we are given the Holy Spirit at salvation, that means this same Faithful nature that is characteristic of God is available and within us. We may just need to ask God to help develop it more so that it is more evident within us. Join me as I do that now.
Father God, we praise You for Your Faithful nature. We see it in Your Creation and within our own experiences with You. Thank You for being steady- even when we are not. Grow this fruit within us. Make it evident in the way we deal with the ever-changing events around us. In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.
