Time for a Revolution! Be KIND!

A pre-corona tradition:

Back in the days when Hubby and I used to go to restaurants and eat out IN THE ACTUAL LOCATION…we had a fun tradition: we would be on the look out for someone we could bless by ambushing their server and paying for their meal without their knowledge. Sometimes it would be someone we knew, but most of the time it ended up being complete strangers. Just a Random Act of Kindness. Our attempt toward a Kindness Revolution.

No, we’re not independently wealthy. And yes, we’ve been on the receiving end a time or two. But that’s not the point. The point is that we have been blessed, and we love to bless others as well.

Will you help us? You don’t have to do meal ambushing. God will show you what He wants you to do.

Here are my 5 tips:

1. SALVATION:

(If you don’t have a personal salvation relationship with Jesus, go here first.) God’s personal example of Who He Is includes, up-close and personal, that He is kind – for a specific reason. Rom. 2:4 says, “Or do you despise the riches of His Kindness, restraint, and patience, not recognizing that God’s Kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” Really wrap your head around this: we did nothing to earn/deserve His kindness. (Titus 3:4-5, “But when the Kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us – not by work of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy – through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.“)

2. SUBMISSION:

A revolution can only occur when there is a charismatic leader and obedient followers who believe the leader’s cause is just. Eph. 4:32 says, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Not only is this a command, but we are reminded that we have the best example possible to follow.

3. SENSIBILITY:

For a revolution to gain momentum, there must be a practical aspect to it that will meet the need(s) of the general population. Our Kindness is the perfect fit here. Acts 28:2 tells us, “The local people showed us extraordinary kindness, for they lit a fire and took us all in, since it was raining and cold.” This revolution doesn’t have to take millions of dollars or 10K social media followers. All it has to do is meet the needs of the ones God puts in front of us each day.

4. SIN-AVOIDANCE:

We benefit from this as well, as it says in Prov. 14:21. “The one who despises his neighbor sins, but whoever shows kindness to the poor will be happy.” Our apathy in this area is sin. Period. We have been ordered into Kindness Mode, and our refusal is blatant defiance.

5. SPEECH REVOLUTION:

Above all else, this revolution will happen internally when our words are under control. Hate gossip? Lies? The godly woman from Prov. 31 manages her tongue. Verse 26 says, “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Look at Prov. 12:25, too. “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.”

Father God, show us someone today and every day who needs our Kindness. Give us the boldness to step up and be a kinder version of ourselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
