F is for Faith

A fundamental to prayer

Matthew tells us that we will receive whatever we ask for in prayer if we believe. (21:22) And “if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move, and nothing shall be impossible to you.” (17:20) Mustard seeds are tiny! But that tiny bit is all we need to accomplish the impossible for His Kingdom.

What is it?

“Now faith is the assurance[title deed, confirmation] of things hoped for[divinely guaranteed], and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. Hebrews 11:1 AMP

In other words, faith is when we take something God guaranteed for us as a legal fact, despite it not yet being a reality.

Where does it come from?

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ.” Romans 10:17

Are you feeling a lack? It isn’t something you can generate on your own. It comes by hearing Scripture. So what’s a Bible girl to do when she’s low on a weekday?

Easy: Pull up an online sermon. Or read Scripture aloud yourself. Search for verses on faith and HEAR yourself read them aloud.

Then simply pray for some. God wants us to have it, so He’s not going to refuse.

What’s a basic example of it?

Your belief in Jesus as the Living Christ is the fundamental example. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.”

Are there any benefits to having some?

It pleases God. In fact, “without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6) Just our basic faith that Jesus is Who He said He is makes Him happy.
It allows us to resist attack. In 1 Peter 5:8-9, it says, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethern who are in the world.”

Father God, we know that a prayer offered in genuine faith will accomplish great things. Help us to not only have the mustard-seed-like speck of desire to pray such a prayer, but the boldness to follow through with whatever You lead us to do to see it through.
