I’m overwhelmed.
You may have noticed there wasn’t a new post last week.
That’s because Last Monday I hit a wall.
Okay. Not a real brick and mortar wall, but a wall of overwhelm.
Why was I overwhelmed?
- Our niece lives with us now, and she got word Monday noon that she needed to see a surgeon for her knee THIS WEEK.
- Monday after work, Mom called. She fell and broke her hip. This is the same leg she broke in 2012 – just the other end of the femur. Last time, I became her primary care-giver. Last time I didn’t have a high school senior who needs surgery, and I didn’t have MIL living with us.
So, I was in shock.
That’s a lot of news to take in, in the span of just a few hours.
Choices:
Being with Mom for her Valentine’s Day surgery meant missing Niece’s Senior Night for Basketball Cheerleading. (And missing the beautiful roses Hubby sent to my office before he knew I’d be gone.) Tough choices, but necessary.
Who is overwhelming you?
As I drove the 90 minutes to Mom, it hit me: Yes, I’m overwhelmed. But it’s not the kind of overwhelm God wants for us.
He is with us. He will fight for us; we just need to be still. He will level the mountains we are facing. He will part the sea of emotions we stand before and will provide dry and stable land for us to cross over to the other side.
Like Peter when he walked on water, God wants us to focus more on Him than on the waves that surround us.
When we do that, we can be overwhelmed with God and who He is. That is an overwhelming thing you can live with.
Big Daddy Weave describes how to get there in this song. Please listen.
Thanks for reading. My prayer for you today is that your overwhelm comes only from God.
