Free wisdom – just for the asking.
If someone was giving away a new house to everyone who asked, how many people would sign up? What if it was the same offer, but for a new car? Sure. The line starts here. It would be silly to pass up that kind of offer.
Then why do people try to figure things out ALONE?
One of the Bible verses that I find beautifully ironic is James 1:5. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
The irony is that you have to be INTELLIGENT enough to realize you aren’t WISE enough to handle things on your own.
Now technically, there is a difference between INTELLIGENCE and WISDOM:
INTELLIGENCE: [capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc.]
WISDOM: [the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.]
The critical issue is that we must umble ourselves and admit we are in over our head before we can ask God to step in. He promises not to mock us for needing help “without finding fault.” And He promises not to scrimp on the wisdom-giving either “generously.”
Luke 11:9 also reminds us to ASK, SEEK and KNOCK. God isn’t playing games with us. He’s ready to give. All we have to do is ask. I love this verse, and decided to add it to my Journaling Bible.
