Rhythms of Grace

Matthew 11:28-30 says,

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Life gets busy. Too busy.

May’s theme of Sanctuary is very timely for me. I am at a point of resting. Healing from grief. Reviving an old dream. And, since I am notorious for not taking time to recharge, this is a difficult time for me. But there is a recurring theme in all this: I need to Be Still Before God.

HE can recharge me. HE can remind me that HE is the source of my passions for art and writing. HE will meet me where I am and – if I will sit down and cool my jets long enough – HE will speak to me.

There is one place not terribly far from where I live that never fails to provide a quiet to my heart that enables me to hear God’s voice. With a short hike, you can stand at the base of a tower beside a quiet lake. Prov. 18:10 says, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” So the tower makes me think of God and safety.

The tower is a place of quiet.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower. So HIS name quiets my soul. On the days that I cannot physically get to the tower, I can call on HIS name and the same peace is there for me.

I just need to TAKE THE TIME to be still before God. HE is waiting for me; I need to make the appointment a priority. In fact, I’ve been listening. So, in obedience to this mandate, I’m cutting back on my posts for the summer months to focus on self-care and the major projects He has set before me. Look for new posts from me on Fridays.

The art is another page where I scraped paint and added the photo I took from the tower base. My focus should be upward – to seek the things God has for me. When I take time to Be Still Before God, I can hear His plans for me. It’s so exciting to hear – and obey!
