Last week we discussed the importance of daily gratitude.
We learned how our brains tend to focus on the negative – originally for survival purposes. If you missed that post, you can read about that here.
I also offered a week’s worth of prompts to get you started on your gratitude path last week. The first one really got me thinking.
“Grateful for the family tradition of ______”
This year, Thanksgiving will be tough because my kids won’t be here. My favorite Thanksgiving tradition dates back to when I was quite young.
My mother and grandmothers would be bustling about the kitchen, preparing the biggest meal of the year. At some magical point, the turkey would break free from the oven, and the aroma would draw the children into the room.
My paternal grandmother “Mamaw” would sneak us the crispy turkey skin as she carved the bird. Mom and Dad would laughingly chase us from the kitchen, but we’d sneak back in for the contraband. Over and over, until it was time for the meal to start.
Eventually, I had children of my own, and they got the crispy delight.
So this year, there’s no one to sneak turkey skin to, and it makes me a bit sad. I’m sure Jett will do his best to take up the slack.
Anyway, here is the follow-up list as promised. These 8 prompts will get you through Thanksgiving Day.
I am Grateful…
1. For the _____ holiday
2. For the ability to _____
3. For someone I miss
4. For someone I see daily
5. For someone who forgave me
6. For this book
7. For this music
8. For my favorite kind of weather
I challenge you to continue a daily gratitude habit, even after Thanksgiving passes. It can make a world of difference in your attitude.
Thank you for stopping by today. I’m praying for you.
