There are days when you REALLY know you’re under fire.
This week we had such a day.
- A local police officer knocked on the door to tell me the fire department was on the way, and I didn’t even know we needed them.
- The fire started in the alley behind my house. It got to the fence. That got the shed and the tree.
- The policeman rescued the lawn mower and 4 boxes of Christmas decorations before the flames got out of hand.
- No one was injured.
- It’s just stuff. Christmas stuff mostly inside the shed, and it’s gone. That means the handmade stockings my mom made and the 100+ Santas, including Hubby’s yearly additions to my collection. The 3 Christmas trees are toast. And the fire ate Son’s and Daughter’s handmade childhood ornaments.
What makes this even harder, is knowing that our family has been under fire before.
Okay, we’re survivors. But there is trauma in dealing with fire and loss. To get an idea of what I’m talking about, please reread these posts:
Was this a great time for this kind of life interruption?
No.
Ha. Of course not. There is never a good time for something like this, but my last week of summer before I go back to my school job is not the ideal time to add trauma to my life. And Hubby was gone, so I was dealing with it on my own.
Perfect time to lean on someone, right?
Who are you leaning on under the flames?
There is shelter in His wings. Until this week, I never thought of “His wings” as being asbestos – or something similar. But think about it. Shelter from…anything. Flames, floods, pain, loss. Tuck in close and lean on the shoulder of the One who remains steady and faithful during trials.
Why do I feel under attack?
Oh, maybe the enemy was trying to rob me of my last days of calm before the new school year. Guess it’s up to me – AND GOD – to thwart that plan.
I really do appreciate you coming by to read today. I prayed for you today.
Please say a prayer for us here, too. Thanks.
